Responsive Layout Design

I'm trying to emulate this responsive layout design - http://readcereal.com/journal/

However I have only been able to figure out how to do it via adaptive design with marginal results - http://theqrsgroup.businesscatalyst.com/baths.html

The issue I keep running into is having grouped elements resize and stay consistent within the design. Whenever I try to do this, it doesn't work. Any insight or widgets you recommend to help with this?

Well, grouping is not always the answer, but if you do it, you must follow some small rules such as watching for pinning objects and not having objects overlapped. It was fun to create a sample, just to see if I am able to recreate this, and it was fairly easy, these are the steps you need to take:

Group the images as rectangles.
Add a back rectangle and expand it from both sides.
Make another one for covering the top and bottom, then group the two last ones.
